Izzo Swami 6000 GPS Review

Izzo have launched their latest handheld GPS unit, the Swami 6000. The 6000 is an update on the Swami 5000 and is the sixth generation of the popular Swami series. The new 6000 comes in a choice of two colours yellow or blue and has a larger screen measuring 2”.

Another obvious upgrade in the physical unit is the introduction of a belt clip and magnet to attach to a buggy if required. Izzo have mapped an additional 8,000 courses worldwide bringing the total of courses mapped now to 38,000 worldwide.

Whats New

There have also been a number of improvements on the GPS functionality. Izzo have a reputation for designing simple, straightforward, easy to use devices and they have built on that whilst adding some useful tools and info.

The 5000 displayed distances to the front, centre and back of the greens as well as hazard info (distance to the hazard and carry distance). This info is also available on the 6000 with added yardage accuracy.  The new additions to the 6000 include a digital scorecard, recording greens in regulation (GIR), putts per round and a shot tracker.

Izzo have also added auto hole advancement so the golfer is no longer required to tab onto each hole throughout their round. Izzo have also worked on increasing the battery life on the unit, so once fully charged should last up to 16 hours.

Value for Money

The new 6000 is a simple to use GPS unit whilst maintaining its value for money price tag. The price remains at €149 which is very competitive. It is worth noting that it is the same price as the 5000 was. It is a better unit with additional functions for the same money. Like all new technologies the price seems to reduce in time.

Is the 6000 for me?

The Swami 6000 builds on the huge success Izzo have had in the GPS market by keeping the unit straightforward to use, accurate with useful additional data.  As usual the Swami handheld GPS is recommended for golfers of all abilities and handicaps but particularly for those who are purchasing a GPS for the first time or those golfers who are value conscious. It is also recommended for golfers who prefer not to wear a watch and like to clip it onto the bag instead.

Izzo Update Tool

It is worth bearing in mind that the 6000 like all previous Swami GPS devices can be updated via their website. The update tool is quite easy to use. You simply connect your GPS to your computer via the USB charger lead and follow the on screen instructions.  The update tool should not be needed with your new 6000 but is good to know that it is there for you in the future.

The Swami 6000 is available from Cole Golf with free delivery and comes with a one years manufacturers warranty should you encounter any problems.  The 6000 will make a great addition to your game and is highly recommended.
